A solar thermal solution will provide a typical UK household with 50 to 60% of their Domestic Hot Water in a year. In the summertime this will be as high as 100% meaning that the boiler will never have to fire up saving both energy and money. In the winter a lower level of energy is produced by the sun, so a boiler is also needed to provide energy to heat the domestic hot water.
