Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR) Installers in Staffordshire & the UK

Modern properties and low-energy homes are built with incredible airtightness to prevent heat loss. However, this creates a new problem: it traps stale air, moisture, and pollutants inside. The golden rule of modern construction is simple: Build Tight, Ventilate Right. At Total NRG, we design and install premium Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems. These fully automatic units extract stale, damp air from your home and replace it with fresh, filtered outdoor air, all while recovering up to 96% of the heat that would otherwise be lost!

Why is Mechanical Ventilation Essential?

Without natural drafts to rely on, highly insulated new builds and retrofitted older homes often suffer from inadequate air circulation. This lack of fresh air can lead to condensation, mould growth, and higher concentrations of indoor pollutants such as CO2 and VOCs. Experts recommend replacing approximately 40% of your indoor air every hour. An MVHR system does exactly this, providing systematic, controlled ventilation for pleasant, healthy indoor air without the drafty chill of opening a window in winter.

How Does an MVHR System Work?

Our premium Stiebel Eltron MVHR systems operate in three continuous, silent steps:

  1. Extraction: The system continuously extracts warm, stale, and moist air from "wet" rooms such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms.

  2. Heat Recovery: Before this stale air is vented outside, it passes through a highly efficient heat exchanger. Here, up to 96% of the heat is recovered and transferred to the incoming fresh air. (The stale air and fresh air never physically mix!).

  3. Fresh Air Distribution: The newly warmed, filtered, and fresh outdoor air is gently channelled into "dry" living spaces such as bedrooms, living rooms, and home offices.

1. Supply of fresh air: An external wall vent feeds Fresh air into the system.

2. Ventilation unit: Up to 96% of the heat is recovered from the extracted stale air and transferred to the fresh air. Using optional components, this can be humidified, dehumidified, heated, and cooled.

3. Air distribution: The air distribution system channels fresh air at the right temperature to individual rooms as needed and vents the extracted air to the outside. The air volume can be individually adjusted for each room.

Health Benefits: Let Your House Breathe

Moisture accumulates in every building from cooking, showering, and even just breathing. If it remains trapped inside, it collects as condensation on windows and walls, providing perfect conditions for mould, a serious risk to the building fabric and the health of its residents. Because our fully automatic ventilation units use special, high-grade filters, they keep outdoor pollen, dust, and pollutants outside. MVHR is a game-changer for asthma and allergy sufferers, providing clean, fresh air 24/7.

Meeting Building Regulations (Part F)

The purpose of Part F of the Building Regulations in England and Wales is to ensure that buildings are adequately ventilated to maintain indoor air quality. It applies to new builds, major extensions, and deep refurbishments. A professionally designed and commissioned Balanced Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system from Total NRG is the most efficient way to satisfy these strict Part F requirements, ensuring safe oxygen levels, controlling humidity, and protecting your property from damp.

Meeting Building Regulations Part O (Overheating)

Since the introduction of Part O to the UK Building Regulations, all new residential buildings must be explicitly designed to prevent summertime overheating. Because modern, low-energy homes are so incredibly well-insulated, they easily trap solar heat and can become uncomfortably hot. With active cooling from a reversible Stiebel Eltron heat pump and an MVHR system, Total NRG offers architects, developers, and self-builders a premium, fully compliant solution for managing indoor temperatures without open windows or noisy standalone air conditioning units.

The Ultimate Pairing: MVHR, Heat Pumps & Active Cooling

MVHR systems and heat pumps are the perfect partners for superior energy efficiency. While the heat pump generates heat efficiently, the MVHR ensures that heat isn't wasted by escaping through an extractor fan or an open window. Active Summer Cooling: Even better, when your MVHR is paired with a reversible Stiebel Eltron heat pump, the system can distribute active cooling throughout your home during the hot summer months! Instead of just recovering heat, the system reverses to circulate chilled, fresh, and filtered air, keeping your highly insulated property perfectly comfortable year-round.

Exclusive Offer: When you have your Stiebel Eltron MVHR system supplied and installed alongside a Stiebel Eltron Heat Pump by Total NRG, you will receive an extended 7-year warranty covering parts and labour, giving you complete peace of mind and long-term

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can MVHR be installed in an older house (Retrofit)? Yes, but it requires careful planning. MVHR is most effective in homes that have been heavily insulated and draught-proofed. If your older home is very "leaky" and drafty, an MVHR system won't be as effective because heat is already escaping through the walls and windows.

Is an MVHR system noisy? Not when designed and installed correctly! A premium Stiebel Eltron system, installed with the correct duct sizing and acoustic silencers by Total NRG, will operate almost silently in the background.

How much does an MVHR system cost to run? Because the fans use highly efficient, low-energy motors, the electricity cost to run the unit is incredibly low (often just pennies a day). More importantly, the financial value of the heat it saves far outweighs the cost of running the fans!
